Step it Up Highland Bulletin - August 2008
In order to try and improve our communication I am trying to compile a full list of Walk Leader email addresses so that we can better disseminate information to our Walk Leaders across the Highlands. Our Walk Leader data base is still being completed and it will take a while to get this fully up to date although once the computer system is fully set up getting information out should be much easier. I have sent this email to as many people as I could find with email addresses although I'm sure quite a few will have been left off this list.
If you know people who should be sent information by email but who did not get a copy of this email please let me know and I’ll include them in future emails. Hopefully if we keep refining this list eventually everyone will be on it.
Here are some dates for your diary:
1. Great Glen Way. Date: Sunday 26th October. Starting from the Castle in Inverness at 11.00 am. The GGW walk proved very popular with groups last year so it has been decided to hold a similar event this year. We have very limited funding this year so we can’t provide quite the support that we did for the previous event but it should still be a great day out.
Times are provisional just now but there will be more information for those taking part nearer the time.
We will walk to Abriachan where there will be a buffet meal provided by SIUH. Groups are responsible for providing their own transport to Inverness although we may be able to help with the return journey back to Inverness.
The walk is about 10 miles and is longer than the section we completed last year. Walkers do not have to complete the full distance and you can break off the walk after 5 miles or miss out the first section and avoid the hill so there should be something for everyone. The walk will be risk assessed and full information provided prior to the day.
Attendance is restricted to walk leaders. We should finish around 5.00 pm although times will be set nearer the time.
2. Walk Leader Training. 22nd September Strathpeffer. Our next Walk Leader training course is on the above date. Please let us know if you have someone who would like to attend but has not already been invited.
Preference will be given to people who have not done the course before but all walk leaders are welcome to attend. Limited places.
4. Dava Way. The final leg of the Dava Way will be held on Sunday 14th September Meet at Edinkillie Hall (end of last stage) at 12.00 pm. We will be going for at light meal afterwards.
5. MIDAS training. This is training provided by the Council to enable our Walk Leaders to use Council minibuses which may be available at no charge. There is no date set for this training but interested folk should contact John.
- Nordic Walking North Sea Trail Event Community Hall Balintore Sunday 7th September 2.15. Two walks provided 1-2 hrs. Refreshments available. (This is not a SIUH event but everyone is welcome.
- Website Just for information. You can now download the latest Newsletter from the Website. We are looking into setting up a searchable map and getting a bulletin board set up.
